BAUG #4 – Building Harvey Norman’s eCommerce Site on Azure

UPDATE: Jono has posted the slide deck he used during his presentation on endpoint load-balancing & Traffic Manager.  Thanks Jono!

Hi everyone,

The next Brisbane Azure User Group meeting will be held on Wednesday 16th May, and will be jam-packed with the following two sessions:

Session #1: Building Harvey Norman’s eCommerce Site on Azure

Harvey Norman is one of Australia’s best known retail brands but hasn’t always had the best reputation for exploiting the potential of e-commerce. The brief was simple: develop an e-commerce channel to exploit new business models and supplier relationships, get it up now, make it scalable and by the way make it cheap. What could be easier?

Presenter:  Todd Whitehead is an independent consultant specialising in all things .Net, Azure and Agile related. He has over 20 years experience delivering solutions for clients in the travel, banking, retail and government sectors. In his spare time….well he’ll let you know if that ever happens.

Session #2: Windows Azure Endpoints and Load Balancing
This session will show you how to configure external and internal Azure compute endpoints, custom domains for your hosted services, as well as discuss VIPs and the Azure load balancer, followed by a demo of the Azure Traffic Manager configured for multi-datacenter load balancing.

Presenter:  Jonathon Rossi is a Lead Software Developer with Transmax, a Brisbane based company providing the leading integrated traffic management system for road authorities across Australia, improving ROI and the safety of motorways and surface streets. He’s a young software developer who is always keen to learn new technologies (and have fun along the way), take charge when needed, and has contributed to several open source projects including the Castle Project.

As always please register on the Meetup event page so we organise the right amount of food & drinks.

Hope to see you there!

Dean
